Product: Pixma MG3600?
Operating System: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I can see no obvious way of changing the black and (" colour) inks: I assume that it's easy, but....? Can you please send me a web link?

This is an HP Support forum, the Pixma is a Canon product.  In the future you may have better results in the Canon Support forum.

 

In the meantime, the link here shows how to change the ink cartridges in your Pixma MG 3600 series printers.  [Edit - here is a link with better pictures.]

Thanks very much for your reply(yes), much appreciated. I think the problem I encountered was that on lowering the two vertical plastic pieces, the unit which slides the cartridges, did not move!,
