Hi @randy153,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code 0xc4eb8004 indicating an "Ink system malfunction" can often be resolved by following these troubleshooting steps.
Basic Troubleshooting Steps:
Turn Off and Restart the Printer:
- Power off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
- Turn on the printer.
Check Ink Cartridges:
- Open the printer access door.
- Remove the ink cartridges carefully.
- Check for any visible damage or leaks in the cartridges.
- Clean the contacts on the cartridges and the printer using a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the cartridges securely.
Update Firmware:
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP website or the HP Smart app.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Remove any jammed paper or debris you may find.
Reset the Printer:
- For some HP printers, you can perform a hard reset by holding down the "Power" button for 10 seconds.
If the Problem Persists:
Perform a Printhead Cleaning:
- Depending on your model, you can perform a printhead cleaning from the printer settings or through the HP Smart app.
Replace Ink Cartridges:
- If you still encounter the error, consider replacing the ink cartridges with new, compatible ones, as the current ones may be defective.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
