Hi @PGWDVH

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is experiencing an ink system failure after installing a new black cartridge. This issue can be caused by a faulty cartridge, dirty contacts, or a firmware glitch

Here are some steps to resolve it:

1. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed.
  • You can find the update here.

2. Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Remove the black ink cartridge and inspect it for damage.
  • Reinsert it securely and ensure it clicks into place.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridge and use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold-colored contacts.
  • Let it dry completely before reinstalling.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

5. Reseat the Printhead

  • Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  • Remove the printhead and reinstall it up to three times.

Let me know if any of these steps help! I appreciate your patience while we work through this.
