@abobrytzke, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Make sure the protective plastic tape if any is removed before placing the toner in the printer.
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Update the printer firmware

I guess the brand new toner CF294X that I bought with my printer is bad. I just bought another and replaced it and the toner is full according to the HP Smart app on my computer.
Since I bought it in February, best Buy will not take it back
Picked up on Feb 26, 2020 at Mankato, MN.

In that case, please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the toner replacement options as it is still under warranty.
Keep me posted for any other assistance.
