Please help! I recently purchased a used (but fairly new) HP printer and it had been printing fine for me for a few weeks, but just the other day it stopped allowing me to print anything - the  "Web Services" and "envelope" icons continue to flash and I I get the error on the printer that says "This document failed to print" (USB connected) ~ I have tried everything to no avail to fix this problem so that I can resume printing! I believe that the issue stems from the previous owner being enrolled in the Instant Ink program. I have not enrolled in that nor do I wish to, instead I have replaced both (Instant Ink) ink cartridges with brand new ones just purchased from the store today for this printer and STILL have the same ongoing issue of not being able to print due to the Instant Ink Program issue! HOW in the world do I cancel something that I have not enrolled in to begin with and use this printer as the current owner??? I have looked around for info on this for days now, could you please advise? I just need to get on with a print job and would appreciate any help ~ thank you so much!

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you wanted to know how to opt out from the instant ink program.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help. 🙂

How long are you facing this issue?

Any software/hardware changes happen?

I also see that you have already replaced both instant ink cartridges with regular one's, Good job, because it won't work when the instant ink cartridges are installed. 🙂

Follow these steps and disable to web services and then enable it again. This should delete the printer from the instant ink's database.

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to turn on Web Services for printers that do not have a touchscreen or LCD display.

Example of a printer without a touchscreen of LCD display.

  1. Make sure the printer is connected to a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network with an active Internet connection.

       NOTE:

If you connect your printer to a computer with a USB cable, web-connected printing services do not work.

    • If your printer is connected with a wired (Ethernet) connection, check the cable and the lights on the printer’s Ethernet  port. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink when the cable is connected.

    • If your printer is connected with a wireless connection, make sure the wireless feature is on and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

Some printers have a wireless icon  and a blue light on the front of the printer. If the printer has a blue light, and the light is on and not blinking, your printer is connected to a wireless network.

  2. Print a Network Configuration or self-test page to obtain the printer IP address needed to view the EWS webpage.

For instructions on printing a Network Configuration or self-test page, go to HP Customer Support. Type your printer model, and then search for the document to "print a configuration page" or "print a self-test page," depending on your printer model.

  3. Find the printer IP address on the Network Configuration or self-test page.

Example of a printer IP address.

  4. On your computer, open an Internet browser.

  5. Type the printer IP address in the browser address bar, and then press Enter.

       NOTE:

Make sure to type the IP address into the Internet browser's address box. If typed into a toolbar search box or search engine, the EWS does not open.

  6. If a website security certificate displays in the Internet browser, click Continue.

The EWS information page for the printer opens, which confirms that the printer is on the same network as the computer.

  7. On the EWS webpage, click the Web Services tab.

    • If a Web Services tab is not available, your printer does not support Web Services.

    • If a Web Services Summary page displays, Web Services is already on.

Example of clicking Print Info Page.

Click on "remove web services" and once done, follow the on-screen instructions and "enable the web services" again.

Let me know how that pans out.

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask any other queries as  well,
