On my old HP 895cxi Deskjet printer I was able to feed individual sheets of Avery 4103 pin fed labels to print them.  My software allowed me to set the custom size for the labels.  Using the same software  can I  print labels on my HP 6830 Officejet printer?

No, the minimum your HP 6830 supports is size is 3x5" and getting to print on 3x5 size would be tricky.

The answer is "Maybe", likely.

I do NOT believe this Officejet printer supports individual sheet feeding.  You would have to place a small stack of labels in the tray and print.

User Guide

Load Paper - perhaps Page 15  (look for the exact page you want if this is incorrect)

Also:

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel

Open Printer Tray,

If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type

Close Tray

IF applicable for your printer:

Look for a message on the Printer Control Panel,

Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down menu, Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)

Set the Preferences - Windows

NOTE:  Not all of the following might be applicable to Windows 7 or an older print driver (software)

  1. Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Set as Default

  1. Select and adjust settings in each category for the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences

OR

Windows key + S (search for) Printers and Scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage > Printing Preferences

Next

Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight your preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

NOTE - Make changes to a Shortcut

  • Select a shortcut and adjust the settings for paper, source (tray), other settings
  • If supported, save the edited shortcut or use “Save As” or “Create Custom Shortcut” to save under a new name
  • Click OK to save the setup

Using the same Software

The "same software" ?  The answer to that surely depends on the software and the context in which you mean the question.

For example, Using the same software might mean "using Word" or "using Avery Design and Print" to create the label document structure and the content in that document.  If you still have your Avery Design and Print software, then it is generally more likely to handle the margins and alignment than is Word.  On the other hand, if you are using "old" Office Software, it might do worse or better than newer versions of Office.  ?

I downloaded the 4013 template.

If the sizing information found in Word is correct, the paper size is 4.25" X 12"

To avoid paper jams and other issues when printing on nonstandard custom paper sizes, make sure that the dimensions fall within the parameters listed in the following table.

Creating Custom Paper Sizes

===========================================================

The actual setup in the print driver depends on the software you are using to create / submit the job to the printer.  (Yes, you know this.)  The exact method used to adjust the parameters (printer driver settings) is likely different from your old printer - the setup should be recognizable, at least (can be figured out).

Why different:  Printer software is not all the same for every printer and every version of the Operating System.

In General, the two printers likely handle similar Media (kind of paper).  For example, if you set your printer software on the old printer to "Card", then Index / Card or similar will likely work on this printer.

So, the general "ability" of the printer to do the job is supported.

The details, setup, are up to you.

I cannot help with Windows 7 beyond this - I have not used "7" in a long time.
