I am trying to print a note card envelope with the size 5 5/8 width by 4 inch height. I've followed the instructions to set up Custom Sizes -about 5 times I've re-done and re-tried. When I get to the Print screen, it shows the graphic of the envelope with my data on it, and yet, when the printer pulls in the paper stock and spits it out.. there's no printing on it. Now- obviously, I've checked my ink supply and the printer is printing on other documents.  Weird thing is, that I've set up other custom sizes and they work, no problem. Why am I having a terrible time with this set up ?

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I didn't notice that it's been 3 long and glorified years, I thank you for making my day and it's time I make yours 😉

Hence, I did some research and it looks like your curiosity makes sense and that it should work, however, since it isn't, I recommend you reset the printing system:

  1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.

  2. Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.

  3. Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

Figure : Clicking Reset printing system

    Image: Click Reset printing system
  4. Click Reset or OK.

  5. If prompted, type your username and password, and then click OK.

    The printing system resets.

  6. Turn off the printer, wait 5 seconds, and then turn on the printer.

  7. Wait until the printer is idle and silent.

  8. In the Printers window on the Mac, click the Add button.

  9. Select your printer from the list, and then click Add.

It might take a few seconds before your printer displays in the Printers list.

If the issue persists, please remove the drivers and install it using the apple software: Click here for instructions.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you have trouble printing a custom size paper on your HP Envy 5530,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Are you attempting to create a custom paper size from the Page Setup menu or from the Print menu?

Did you check if this printer supports such paper size?

(Click here to check the paper handling specs)

Here's what you need to follow to accomplish the task if it's supported:

CLICK HERE FOR MORE STEPS AND INSTRUCTIONS.

(by the end of this document, all the issues should be resolved)

That said, I happen to look into the specifications and it looks like the minimum paper size that's supported by your printer is 5inch Height.

I hope that answers your queries,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thank you for looking into my issue.

However, on the link you supplied for Paper Handling Specs , for the Envy 5530 , in the Paper Handling Specifications category, under Envelope sizes, it shows the #10 envelope which is 4.12 x 9.5 (and since we know that the 9.5 is the length in a #10 envelope) then 4.12" would be the height. Add'ly, there was a Card envelope measuring 4.4 x 6" and a DL envelope measuring 4.33 x 8.66 inches.  So, I cannot see where minimum paper size supported was restricted to 5" in height?

@bloanie

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

If you go through the paper handling specifications,

You would see that there's not a single paper size that is smaller than 5inch,

Paper type | Paper size

U.S. Letter | 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 in)

Executive | 184 x 267 mm (7.24 x 10.51 in)

Cabinet | 127 x 177.8 mm (5 x 7 in)

O**bleep**u hagaki | 200 x 148 mm (7.87 x 5.83 in)

Card type | Card size

3 x 5 in Index | 76.2 x 127 mm (3 x 5 in)

4 x 6 in Index | 101.6 x 152 mm (4 x 6 in)

5 x 8 in Index | 127 x 203.2 mm (5 x 8 in)

I hope that answers your question as that's the shows the restrictions,

Hi Riddle_Decipher... Congratulations on your 3rd anniversary (8-11-) of your joining this HP Forum !!

I guess I am just not 'getting' your examples of paper size restrictions. As you show below, in your last post, examples of card size and you've highlighted the length sizes of each card size..but the height sizes are below the 5" minimum. So what's to keep the printer from printing on a 3 x 5 inch card ?  Meaning the 3" dimension ?  I don't get it...?
