I just upgraded to MAC OS High Sierra and was unable to print. It could not find my printer. I realized my printer was off so turned it back on and reconnected it to the network. I can print from my iPad but not from my MacBook Pro. I did delete the printer from my system under system preferences but now cannot add it back to print wirelessly. I am able to print if I connect my computer to the printer via a cable. As soon as I remove the cable, I cannot add the printer. Nothing shows as available to add. I really do not want to have to physically connect via a cable in order to print anything.

I actually found the answer eventually myself: First I had to restore the wireless defaults on the printer. Then to discover the printer, I actually had to make sure that my computer and my printer were on the same WIFI. The problem was also that my computer was on the same named wifi but on a 5G connection but the printer only operates on 2.4 G connection so I had to change my computer wifi. After that point, I could actually see the network printer and add it along with its scanning ability

Hello, @mmss – Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I'm glad to be of your assistance!
I see that you are facing issues while printing from your MAC. Try the steps below to try and fix the issue. Here are the steps:
- Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
- Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
- Restart your computer and printer.
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
- Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
- Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
- Now, click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip to download and install the printer driver.
- In the “Add printer” window, make sure you add the printer as mentioned below:
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.
If the issue persists, then assign a static IP to the printer as suggested below:
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
- Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says, “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on radio button which says, “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
- Restart the printer and then router once done.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂
