Whenever I print labels the printed images/texts are positioned too high causing it to print off the top of the label.  It seems like an alignment problem.  This started sometime within the past month or two.  I don't print labels often so I cannot determine whether this problem started after an update to Microsoft Word/Publisher or Adobe Acrobat DC.  Is there a way to adjust alignment from within Microsoft Word or Publisher or from within Adobe Acrobat DC?  Or better yet, is there a way to adjust this from within the printer settings?  This same problem exists when I attempt to print from my laptop to this same printer.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's to a printhead alignment:

From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ). 3. Touch Printer Maintenance , select align printhead.

Let me know if this helps.

Betty,

I found your suggestion that I align printheads.  I did this.  It did not help.  Labels still print too high on labels.

Thanks for replying!

  • What happens when you make photocopies on the printer?
  • Does the print preview look good?
  • What happens when you print on regular plain paper?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

If a print a sheet of labels on plain paper the labels are also too high on plain paper.  When I copy onto a sheet of labels from the template that I printed on plain paper the labels are also too high on the sheet of labels.  Does this make sense?

If you are asking simply about making copies of other documents any other document copies fine.  Nothing is different about the copy and the original.

When any other document is printed other documents print perfect.  It's only labels that print too high.  This is true whether I create labels using Microsoft Word or use the Avery website to create labels and download my Avery created labels as a PDF document and then print.

I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2) Select your HP Printer

3) Select Uninstall

4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”

😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab

9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10) Select Ok

11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12) Close Devices and Printers.

Use this link to download and install the new driver. Configure the printer and try printing.

If the issue persists, try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
