Microsoft Windows 11

I've used the same labels for years on my OfficeJet Pro 8710, and now the labels will not print correctly.  The printer keeps grabbing the first label and advancing the paper, which off sets everything.  Regardless of having one sheet or multiple sheets in the printer, the same outcome happens...everything is not printing on the label correctly.

Hi @ppiwo,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with how the printer is feeding the label sheets. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check the Paper Settings

Paper Type Settings:

  • Open the printer preferences on your computer.
  • Ensure that the paper type is set to "Labels" or "Heavyweight".
  • If there is a specific setting for the type of labels you are using, select that.

Paper Size Settings:

  • Confirm that the paper size matches the size of the labels you are using.

Step 2: Clean the Paper Rollers

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the paper tray and any paper in it.
  3. Locate the paper rollers inside the printer.
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the rollers.
  4. Let the rollers dry completely before reinserting the paper tray and turning the printer back on.

Step 3: Adjust the Paper Tray

  1. Ensure the paper guides are properly aligned.
    • The guides should snugly hold the label sheets in place without being too tight.

Step 4: Use High-Quality Labels

  1. Ensure the labels are designed for inkjet printers.
    • Using labels not suited for your printer type can cause feeding issues.

Step 5: Print a Test Page

  1. Print a test page to see if the issue persists.
    • Use a plain sheet of paper first to verify if the problem is with the printer or the labels.

Step 6: Update Printer Firmware and Drivers  Update the firmware on an HP printer

  1. Ensure your printer firmware is up to date.
    • Visit the HP Support website to check for any available firmware updates for your OfficeJet Pro 8710.
  2. Update your printer drivers.
    • Go to the HP Drivers & Downloads page and download the latest drivers for your printer model and operating system.

Step 7: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for about 60 seconds and then plug it back in.
  3. Turn on the printer and try printing again.

Step 8: Check for Obstructions

  1. Open the printer and check for any obstructions or bits of paper stuck inside.
    • Remove any debris carefully.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

It seems like cleaning out the rollers might have done the trick.  I keep trying to print labels
