HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a LaserJet Pro M1212nf MFP that worked fine on Windows 10 and with an aftermarket cartridge. I built a new PC with Windows 11 and then got an error about a non-HP cartridge, which of course is ridiculous but I caved and bought HP cartridges. Now it's forever stuck on "initializing" and I've tried unplugging/replugging, etc, etc.

I've read there's a way to "reset" this and I've downloaded the HP assistant. Is there a simple way to reset, or do I need to go through contacting HP assist?

Also, am I no longer able to use aftermarket cartridges?

Appreciate any help/guidance y'all can provide.

Hi @TwR15,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

We have to perform an NVRAM Reset to unlock the features of the printer/Reset the password.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
