Just letting everyone know - I got a Brother HL-L2465DW from Walmart a few days ago for $144. Just a little larger than this unit. BUT it works beautifully. And I tested it with a $26 after-market high-capacity toner (which would be $100 if it were the 134XL) and it worked without error. I still want my HP fixed so it's worth something to someone.

Blocking Older or non genuine toner?
So basically if the toner is from 2023 its considered old ? That's crazy.
The toner that the new firmware bricked, the date of the toner says 20230831. I bought the toner in January 2024. It was a genuine HP product, in fact it is a high yield toner.
I guess i will never buy the high yield anymore if the firmware considers 2 year old ones being old.
BTW, i have the settings for the toner protection off, so even if that option is off its useless.

Ci stanno truffando

Just wanted to update you guys.
Arstechnica ran with my tip.
Firmware update bricks HP printers, makes them unable to use HP cartridges - Ars Technica
I think we're going to get a firmware update now that it went public.

thank goodness, i hope they do just release it to us. its so tricky to find the online chat on the HP support site.
I just wonder if it can unbrick the toner or will we have to fight HP to send us new toners.

@K-med - they even quoted a few of us. Shame it has to come to that - rather than caring about the mistakes they made and rectifying expeditiously. What do they do at HP? Do they even know? Responsibility is no longer in style, that's for sure.

Hold the presses!! It seems as if they "rolled back" the firmware to a 2024 version. Take a look!

Same problem. HP support was not able to solve, told me the cartridge is out of warranty because was bought one year and one month ago: for them the only solution is that I buy another cartridge... (in this way they will be able to invalidate also the new one...)
