Laserjet Pro M1530
If I make a copy by putting the page on the glass, it works fine.
Same is true if I put a page on the glass to scan.
When I feed pages to be copied from the top feeder tray, there is one black line the length of each page.
Also, it does the same if I use the top feeder tray to scan things.
What is causing this black line?
thanks much

Lift the feeder to access the scanner glass and clean the smaller glass on the left side.
Not your printer model but it looks the same

Primary causes include grime, dust, worn rollers, or incorrect paper weight. The most basic way to prevent paper jams is simply through regular cleaning of your printer. Also, replace parts as needed. Finally, check the weight of paper your printer is rated for.

Thank you so much! I cleaned the smaller glass to the left as you suggested. I then noticed the small white rollers above that area in the lid had something black on them, so I cleaned those as well. Now the solid black line is GONE when I make copies. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
