HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

I am not able to login into the Embedded Web Server because my printer (HP Office Jet Pro 6978 All-in-One) has no label with a username and password. I don't remember setting one up when I did the initial setup. As a result, I am unable to access most of these features. I tried everything I could find online and at this point I am getting a little discourage. Even a reinstating factory setting is locked. Any help would be appreciated. thx.

Hi @Jpvachon2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your Printer.

Kindly refer to the below information to troubleshoot and let me know if that resolves the issue.

  1. The printer user name will be default as "admin" and you can try "admin" as the default password. If that does not work, then on the printer's backside, or someplace on the printer, you may look for a sticker which will have the password.

  1. With previous firmware versions, the default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank

With the latest printer firmware, the default username remains admin (all lower case), but the password is the WPS PIN Number of the printer.

To locate the WPS PIN Number, print a Network Configuration Report and locate the PIN Number within the WPS Information section.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
