HP 3830
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I just read an entire thread on this.

Did all the recommended steps except call HP Support to find out how to access a "secret menu" to fix it.

Yes, I've hard reset.

Yes, I've cleaned the print heads.

Yes, I am using HP in and it is full.

I have done the above multiple times and still only get color printing. I don't need my word docs in color, but, am now printing them in color just so I can print! If I try to print black - nothing.

Has anyone solved this incredibly annoying problem yet? I actually boxed this printer up and tried to sell it on LetGo, but it didn't sell and went back to my old Brother. I just ran out of ink in my Brother, and in desperation opened the HP, opened a new ink cartridge...and, still having the same issue as when I boxed it up and tried to offload it 6 months ago.

So much for saving time over making a 45 minute trip to the office supply store!

Hi @MarniL

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Apologies for the inconvenience. Try making a copy in black and check if the issue persists. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

If you have tried the steps mentioned in this document and the issue persists, I'm afraid this could be a possible hardware issue with the printer. Please contact our HP Support team for Service Options:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Have a great day!
