HP Photosmart C4795 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer has paper loaded.  As it draws in the first sheet, there is a very loud clacking noise, but then it prints the sheet with no problem.

Welcome to HP support community.

Clean the rollers.

Step one: Clean the rollers in the rear of the product

  1. Gather the following materials:

    • A clean, lint-free cloth, or any cloth that will not come apart or leave fibers

    • Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might damage the product)

    • Clean, lint-free cotton swabs

  2. Press the Power button () to turn off the product.

  3. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

  4. Press the tab on the left side of the rear access door, and then pull the door outward to remove it.

Your solution did not help.  Still have the loud clacking sound like a machine gun.  Honestly, I don't see how cleaning the rollers would help anyway.  The paper is feeding in just fine.

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

Refer this HP document for the steps to update firmware:- Click here

I hope that helps.

I tried this suggestion.  The machine gun like noise is still there.
