My Laserjet M201dw seems to be stuck in pause mode when printing. There can be one or several jobs in the print Q and even if I resume printing it switches back to pause immediately. I have a Mac with OS Sonoma and this has not been an issue until this week.

Hi @Erikw13,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP Laserjet M201dw printer. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.
- Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.
- Check Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your Mac and that there are no loose cables. If you're using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your Mac.
- Update Printer Driver: Make sure you have the latest printer driver installed on your Mac. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues with newer operating systems.
- Reset Printing System: On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Right-click on the printer and select "Reset printing system." Note that this will remove all printers from your system, so you'll need to re-add them afterward.
- Check Printer Settings: Make sure that the printer is not set to "Pause" mode in its settings menu. You can usually access the printer settings by navigating through the printer's control panel or via its web interface.
- Clear Print Queue: If there are any stuck print jobs in the queue, try clearing them out. Open the print queue on your Mac by going to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, then double-click on the printer. You should see a list of print jobs, which you can cancel or delete.
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer. This will revert all settings back to their default values, so make sure to note down any custom settings before proceeding.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I have this same issue. I have done everything except the factory reset. It printed once for me but now it's back to an immediate pause. I'm wondering if it has something to do with having a non. HP toner cartridge though I have been using them for years.
I know it Can print. It just won't.
Any other suggestions out there?

I have same issue. Stuck in Pause. No problem until a few days ago. When I click resume it just goes straight back to Pause. If I pause the job, then un-pause the printer, nothing happens until I un-pause the job again and then the printer goes back into Pause. I have re-installed the latest drivers and followed all the steps listed above. I have uninstalled and reset all printers settings. Scan working fine so definitely not a network issue. I can use the HP tools to print Test pages, just not what I want it to print.

I have the exact same issue. My temporary work around it to email the files to myself and print them from my phone.
C'mon HP support your products. I feel like my printer is not that old. And up until now it has been excellent.

Hello Alden4
I have the exact same issue, and it looks like at least a half-dozen other people have had this issue in the past week.
I've tried all your suggested fixes - nothing works. My printer was working fine before - is this the result of an auto update?
Please advise us on what to do next. Many of us are suffering the same problem. Thanks.
