Hi @DP_SG,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283FDW is displaying an "ERROR PRINTING" message when attempting to print PDFs (and potentially other file types), you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
1. Check Printer Status and Connections
Verify Printer Status:
- Ensure the printer is turned on and connected to your network (wired or wireless).
Check Connections:
- Ensure that all cables are securely connected if using a wired connection.
- For wireless connections, confirm that the printer is connected to the correct network.
2. Update Printer Firmware
Download Firmware Update:
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model (M283FDW).
- Download the latest firmware update available for your printer.
Install Firmware Update:
- Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update to install it.
3. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer.
- Install the newly downloaded drivers following the on-screen instructions.
4. Reset Printer Settings
Perform a Printer Reset:
- Access the printer’s control panel, go to Settings or Setup.
- Look for options like "Restore Defaults" or "Factory Reset" and follow the prompts.
Reconfigure Network Settings:
- After resetting, reconnect the printer to your network if necessary.
5. Check PDF File and Application
- Try printing different PDF files to ensure the issue is not specific to one file.
- Ensure Adobe Acrobat Reader or any other PDF viewer you are using is up-to-date.
- If you have another PDF viewer or printer application, try printing from that to see if the issue persists.
6. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website.
- Open the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix printing issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
