M452dw Color LaserJet will not connect to ethernet.
Can not use "Auto" link speed on a gigibit network.
Will not take the DHCP lease from the DHCP server.
Can not set a manual IP setup.
Seriously, it's as if HP never built a printer for ethernet before. Did they forget how?
Tried reset to defaults. Tried dozens of other manual setting, methodically, trying to find one that works. Ethernet does not function with this printer, and apparently HP does not care enough to fix the firmware. Great,. Thanks.

We have a lot of clients with this printer and they use network with no problem. We have run into the odd compatibility issue with some network switch gear but usually that is fixed by setting the link speed on the network card to 100 non-duplex. Slower but at least workable. Or you may have a defective formatter.

What do you mean by "formatter". I know about the 100 half duplex issue... And right now, the newest "firmware updater" dose snot see the printer even power USB.
This has been a constant problem since I bought the printer and HP has refused to help in any way.

The formatter is the main communication board where the network cable or usb cable plug into

Also, this: "fixed by setting the link speed on the network card to 100 non-duplex. Slower but at least workable" Is not at all acceptable, not from a company like HP.
As for the formatter, it would have to be a very unusual fault: it shows the link and appears in the router tables.

I just set up a similar laserjet on my ethernet LAN. Works great.
You indicate you cannot set up the IP manually, please clarify. Do you possibly mean you can't set up a static IP? In any case, on the EWS page under Networking, it provides for setting several access methods. I strongly suggest creating a static IP in the router for the printer and then in EWS set the access to Manual along with the static IP, subnet, and LAN gateway. With wireline there usually there is no reason to use a rolling leased IP from the DHCP pool, and doing so can be problematic.
Note: Some routers configure the static IP separately from the DHCP pool, others user an IP address from within the pool range which is fixed to the MAC address. I've used one or the other on my LAN's for 20+ years, depending on the router. In either case, for this printer still use Manual in EWS, not DHCP.

Thank you for responding, I've tried all that.
I'm using OPENWRT for the router, and there are Linksys and Netgear gigabit switches on the network, one is managed.
I can only connect to the printer via USB or via WiFi.
I have tried everything from setting manual IP in the printer to setting static ports in the router, etc etc. The printer will show up in the router table. Under EWS I have tried various combinations including shutting off ipv6 and shutting off DHCP and/or other combinations.
Connected to the LinkSys switch, the printer must be set to 100 half duplex or it won't even show up as an active link on the switch.
I have the latest printer firmware released last month. I've reset the NVRAM (right corner, not the left corner "super NVRAM reset").
This has been a problem since the printer was new, per my post here on 12-31-2018 12:34 PM (which received no replies)...
HP support has not been helpful. All I got was someone reading to me the manual, LOL. (The manual is a joke and incomplete, LOL).
Thank you,
A
PS: if anyone at HP is reading, this website is NOT accessible, and is extremely hard to read do to incorrect use of font smoothing and terrrible color choices.

Good grief, what a pain. Appears you understand the equipment well (I've used and still use some of the same), so unfortunately I've got nothing more to suggest other than the old diagnostic routine of swapping components out one at a time. Come to think of it, with my LAN's over the last 20 years I've had a glitch with every diff type of equipment at one time or another. Luckily I've always had spares for that kind of round-robin testing (I never throw old stuff away).
I'm not suggesting you do the same. It's just to say that short of testing each piece of tech with a spare, I got nothing. Sorry.
