Hi Everyone

I have been having an issue with an M553N where upon startup it goes thru the initialization and at stage 22 lights the red triangle on the display.  The fail happens regardless if the printer is connected to a PC or standalone.

 

It says there is an error with a jam at the right door but I have checked it every way and see no paper fragments anywhere so I am leaning towards a bad sensor. 

 

Full disclosure:  I'm convinced that a client's feline used this printer as a litter box based on the smell and the residue I have cleaned from inside the machine.

 

I read other similar posts (same machine not same expected cause) as that is often a quick way to get to the problem's solution but I am not finding the info I seek-  This one had a detailed answer https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/13-B2-FF-Error/td-p/6646594  but having checked the various points, I am hoping that somebody can help me narrow down the fail based on the stage the error presents?

 

It also will flash a "Tray 2 lifting, NPIC00494" briefly and go back to the 13.B2.FF jam at right door.  Maybe Initializing 22 is not as telling as I would like because i think previously the fail may have showed up at 17...  Troubled by the inconsistency I turned it off and back on and this time the error showed at Initializing 18

 

I'm willing to swap in the needed replacement parts as this seems like a good machine but so far I have failed to determine a good way to know what parts are needed.

 

If i do a test print the page starts but gets stuck about 1/2" below "This is the end of the printer test page"It does print but gets stuck just below "this is the end"It does print but gets stuck just below "this is the end"

 

Any guidance you may have to offer is appreciated.

Find yourself a troubleshooting manual and run a manual sensor that that will guide you to the bad sensor ( if that is causing you issue) it could be a registration sensor(s) problem.

Thank You for the response- I have looked and have found a list of manuals here:

but none that detail hoe to check the sensors (that I saw)

 

It would be nice if this was a fail in the registration assembly as that looks like a reasonable part to swap

Those are user manuals nothing for you there, you need to get a troubleshooting manual that is what you need for problem diagnostics.
