Hi @Hoko69,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Color Laser MFP 178nwg is still displaying a "Transfer Belt Failure" message even after replacing the transfer belt, try these steps.
Restart the Printer
- Power off the printer completely.
- Unplug it from the power source for 5-10 minutes.
- Plug it back in and power it on.
Ensure Proper Installation
- Open the printer and verify that the transfer belt is seated correctly.
- Make sure all connectors are firmly plugged in.
- If the printer has a sensor or chip for the transfer belt, ensure it is clean and properly aligned.
Reset the Printer
Try resetting the printer to clear any residual errors:
Method 1: Using the Control Panel
- Press the Menu/OK button.
- Navigate to Setup > System Setup > Clear Settings.
- Select Reset Default and confirm.
Method 2: NVRAM Reset (if applicable)
- Turn off the printer.
- Hold Stop (or Cancel) and Power simultaneously for a few seconds until the printer turns on.
- Release the buttons and check if the error clears.
Update Firmware
- Check if your printer’s firmware is outdated.
- Download and install the latest firmware from HP’s support website.
Check for Sensor or Chip Issues
- Some printers require a chip reset when replacing the transfer belt.
- If your replacement belt did not come with a new chip or the printer does not recognize it, you might need a chip reset tool or a different transfer belt with a compatible chip.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
