HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP M528f

The printer stops with an error code 98.00.0C. Power off/on does not correct the problem, the printer does not finish initialization and stops at the same error. Partial clean allows the printer to complete initialization at which point the settings have to be restored from backup. It works for 2 days or so and then the error shows up again. Firmware update to ljM528_fs5.3_fw_2503213_016692 does not fix the problem, only changed the error code to 98.00.00. Hard disk format does not fix the problem. Update to firmware ljM528_fs5.3.0.1_fw_2503242_000315 has some bug which causes the web interface not to respond so I reverted to ljM528_fs5.3_fw_2503213_016692. The problem persists. Does anyone have had the same problem and was it somehow resolved?

Thanks.

Valsimot is right. HDD may need to be replaced.

You can also run the diagnostics under the preboot menu and check if any of the tests fail and act accordingly.

I hope this helps,

I have run multiple tests with no errors, decided to replace the hd per your suggestion. The printer however keeps saying the drive is unsupported. How do I need to prepare the drive so this machine  accepts it?

Part number for a replacement drive is L41606-011. You can only use a Self encrypting physical drive, these units do not support SSD drives.  Here is a video that shows the steps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeWM7s8K_Xc

Hi Repairatrooper, thanks for your help in this.

I have a question,

To your knowledge - will any SED 500GB  HDD work in this printer or does HP only allow their specific drives to work? (Like some specific encryption required)   The part specifications for M528F printer calls for part number  B5L29A which lists for close to $500 while  L41606-011 lists for around $200, but I'm finding some listings for Seagate 691918-021 - 500GB 5.4K RPM SATA SED 7mm 2.5" Hard Drive (refurbished) for under $50. The original part is  Toshiba MQ01ABU050W. Please advise.

Also, after the failed attempt with unencrypting drive. I unlocked the  original drive, reformatted it, loaded the latest firmware and the printer run without errors for about 10 days. Today I got a call saying the printer displays error 49.38.07  then 3 hours later 49.38.0D  and  6 minutes later the same 49.38.07 again.
