My recently installed HP Desk Jet Pro 8710 MFP takes minutes to connect and send the email.

While scan to network is almost immediate. I am running Comcast Blast for 100 mbps speed.

The long time results from an oversize document being scanned.

I tried small and large docs and saw the difference.

From that I don't see there is an actual solution except for

more horse power.

@fkc_Lincolnwood,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with slow scan to email on your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Do you have this issue while printing?

Have you tried to update the printer firmware?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Most of the time, it could depend on the scanned file size as well as it could also depend on the server issue.

Have you tried to scan a short file which is of less file size.

Alternatively, I would suggest you try to connect the printer directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

You can also update the Firmware, you can directly update the printer firmware from the printer control panel or download the software from our HP support website,

Click here for download -   https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/ojpro8710/OJ8710_R1803A.exe Once done, restart the printer.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Jeet Singh, thanks for your prompt reply.

Here is the status of my HP 8710 MFP.

1. Latest firmware is installed and running.

2. have run 8710 direct from wall outlet and does not speed up connection problem

3. I have reduced size of scan and does not help speed up.

4. Internet wifi connection is working fine.

5. scan to folder works fine and is very fast.

6. no usb cable exists, is a wifi connected mfp.

7. this problem also exists on my other 8710 setup

      at my winter home.

8. Printing works fine with no delay

Restating the Problem= When I scan to email the time it takes for the 8710 to respond

is over 2-3 minutes. It does work but it always takes 2-3 minutes. And this is for the default

setup parameters that get pre selected by the 8710 during setup. What is the typical delay time

that HP expects?

thank you and contact me for further questions

@fkc_Lincolnwood,

I would suggest you setup the email profile via printer EWS page as suggested below. Try the steps below:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • From the EWS, click the Scan tab.
  • Click Scan to Email Setup.
  • Click Outgoing Email Profile, click New, and then enter the email address you intend to use with this profile.
  • Enter a display name that will appear on the printer's control panel to identify this email profile.
  • Enter or confirm the correct SMTP server and SMTP port information.
  • If you typically have to enter a username and password to log into your email account, you will want to enter this information into the email authentication fields, and then click Next.
  • Enter a security PIN to restrict access to this email profile, if desired.
  • Set the size for email files and specify Auto CC, if desired.
  • Click Save or Save and test to complete the profile.

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

Jeet, I have done all the steps that you have detailed. In fact these are the standard steps required to get the scan to

email feature working on the 8710 series. This does not make the scan to email time faster. It takes 3 minutes to get a message sent this way. that is unacceptable.

unless you come up with some other modifications I am getting to understand that slowness is a feature of the 8710.

That would be too bad. Perhaps you would report this to engineering as a bug in the system.

thank

you

@fkc_Lincolnwood,

As I understand you are having issues only while scanning to email, the only reason why we had suggested the previous step is to re-setup scan to email again.

If you have already tried to follow the step suggested and still having the issue, then I would suggest you try to perform an advanced reset on the printer.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Please reply back on the public post as this Private message box is not monitored.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

I have the same issue with HP Color Laser Jet MFP M281 fdw printer in  scan to email setup. It takes almost 10 - 30 minutes to send a scanned document to email. I have updated the software and done a normal reset but still the same delay. Please do let me know the steps to hard reset the printer.

@Munaib

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Does this only happen with scan to email or even while normal printing/scanning/copying documents?

Make sure the Printer's Firmware is up to date: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754273

Let me know if this helps.

It happens only for scan to email setup. It takes almost 10 to 20 minutes to send a scanned copy to email. The firmwares are up to date.

What files are you trying to send via scan to email? Let's try a Printer reset here: 1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu. 2. Scroll to and select the Service menu. 3. Scroll to and select Restore Defaults, and then touch OK. The printer automatically restarts.

Let me know if this helps.
