I recently had s syatem crash and have had toi reinstall Windows 10 and all my applications, including for the HP ENVY 5546.  I now notice that it is printing the last page of a multipage document first, irrespective of the source of the document but cannot find a setting for how to change this.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Regards and TIA

Phil

If you have previously installed the Full Feature Software (full driver) for the printer,

If there is no reasonably way to control the obvious progression to print Page 1, 2, 3,4 (for example),

the driver might be corrupted / incomplete.

In the case where you have not yet installed the full driver, please do that using Easy Start and selecting the Full Driver option.  Instructions for doing so are included in your printer website and later in this message.

Where to find the Setting (assuming full driver installed and functional)

Find the "reverse pages" setting in Printing Preferences

Select your Shortcut > Open tabs and search for the setting...

For example, Tab Advanced > CHECK / UNCHECK box next to Reverse Page Order

Click OK to save the change and exit the Advanced menu

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Right-Click Printer > Printing Preferences

General Example - Printing Preferences

9025_Printing_Preferences_Media_Types_7.jpg

Example - Adobe Reader DC - Document Print

Open document

Click Print icon

Click to open "More Options"

Select Reverse Pages

Manage Print Output with Print Preview_PDF_1GManage Print Output with Print Preview_PDF_1G

What else?

If you are printing a document using HP Smart Windows, Select to print a document, find and open that file, select the Page Range option > Enter the page number(s) of those pages you want to print from the document.  You may re-arrange the pages and / or print particular pages from the document.

Example - HP Smart - Windows - PDF Print

Adobe Reader DC – Install Whether You Use It or Not

If you have not done so,

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

HINT:  Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software

NOTE:  Adobe Reader DC software can be installed even if you do not normally open / view / print PDF files directly from the Adobe Reader DC software.

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).

  1. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.

  1. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.

  1. Full driver provides print and scan functions supported by your printer.

Thanks for the prompt reply.  Unfortunately the "advanced" tab does not give me the option to CHECK / UNCHECK box next to Reverse Page Order.  Is this feature not available on my model of printer please?

Regards and TIA

Is the full driver installed?

If the option does  not exist in that location,

If the full driver is installed and functional,

It is certainly possible that the layout of the driver for your printer is different from the example..

Reference

HP print settings guide (Windows, Mac)

For example, check Section Layout and format settings

The only thing I can suggest is that you search for an image that looks more like your own setup.

Open your favorite browser, Search for "HP reverse page order"

General Observation

The issue might be whether the full driver is installed and whether it is functioning correctly.

Losing the ability to simply print a document "in order" is not generally something you should simply lose.

If I think of anything else to offer, I will post back.
