HP Officejet pro 8620

This is just a simple question. Does HP show any indication on the printhead itself on when it was manufactured, a year or and/or month? I am trying to connect the dots on a 8620 printer I purchased to see if I was scammed out of a older/used printhead. I believe the new printhead that would have came with it was replaced with a newer but used printhead. I know this printer was made in 2017 and a number on the side of the printhead start with 2018 followed by a few numbers. I am not sure if this is a date code.

Can your printer print?

If you can print the configuration page from the printers menu you can find printheads installation date somewhere in the middle of the configuration page around ink level.

On top of the configuration page under printers serial number there should be Service ID 5 digit number ( probably starting with 27 or 28) if you provide me with Service ID number I can provide you with the first-day printer was turned ON and used.

If the two dates match +- few days then you have the printhead that cam with the new printer.

So I plugged the printer in and installed the printhead with ink and get a error saying "there is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If persists please contact HP"

When removing the ink the message goes away.

That doesn't help me much because the printer is inoperable. For sure you have a printhead problem, connecting dots will be hard. Those printheads are known for having problems, you can find a lot of post here and on google with that printer model series. On most HP printheads and ink cartridges the stamped date is an expiration date, not manufacturing date, but that is not the case on the printhead you have. With defective printhead, you will hardly know the first installation date, and 2018 doesn't prove much but it is possible that that printhead (2018) didn't come with your new printer. Can't be 100% sure.

Well now I got it past the screen but its now trying me a error saying "do not use setup cartridges"....WHY?!? They are completely filled....why is it not letting me use these perfectly fine cartridges? Not to even print a test page...

HP Recommended

The printhead detects SETUP cartridges, they can be used for the first time initialization when the new printer is removed from the box or new printhead is installed.

If the SETUP cartridges ( there is a SETUP stamped on the label on them ) are new and unused you will not be able to bypass that don't use setup cartridges message.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. There is no difference vs a retail cartridge, both containing the same amount of liquid inside excluding XL 950/951. To completely waste 4 cartridges, not even being able to use them to print test pages seems completely insane.  Now im stuck with a dud because I am unable to use the cartridges that came with said printer to even TEST it.
