I am using avery design and print service to print onto 7654 rectangular labels.

I am having issues with alignment.

My labels start ok at the top left and are more misaligned as you go both right and down, where the bottom right label is worst off allignment.  They havent all shifted by the same amount, if that makes sense?

I am printing a4, making sure the settings are set to 100% when printing.

I am using a brand new hp envy inket printer

Can you help please?

From what I can find, this should work.

Short Answer

Adjust the Paper type to a "thicker" pager type

What to do?

Depends on what you have already tried, of course.

If you have not done so... Try / Consider

Install the Full Feature Software (full driver) - the full driver software provides the foundation on which the other applications (printing from Word or Adobe Reader DC) depend.

Assuming the printer software is installed,

The Next Most likely to help - Adjust the Paper type to a "thicker" pager type

Example:  Select / Set Paper Type = Brochure matte / glossy depending on the print surface on the label paper.

If the side-to-side alignment continues to have minor problems, convert the Word document to the newer format (.docx).  Converting causes a tiny right-left shift to the content.

Export the file to PDF - Print using Adobe Reader DC

Example - Avery L7654 - Adobe Reader DC - Print

Adobe Reader DC – Install Whether You Use It or Not

If you have not done so,

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

HINT:  Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software

NOTE:  Adobe Reader DC software can be installed even if you do not normally open / view / print PDF files directly from the Adobe Reader DC software.

Method - Use the Easy Start Wrapper to Install the Full Feature / Full Driver Software

For printers that support the option,

Use the Easy Start wrapper to install and configure the printer software.

  • Home Page - HP Easy Start
  • Open Category Software and Drivers
  • Topic: Software-Utility
  • Download-and-Save  the current version of the Easy Start wrapper to install your print software
  • If using USB:  Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and computer before installing the software.
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Select to install the “Full Driver” / “Full Feature Software”
  • If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the end of the installation process).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Notes >> Easy Start... The Journey

  1. About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full Driver" set (as opposed to the basic driver or other application).

  1. You can skip / ignore suggestion(s) that you add the HP Account – you’ll need the account at some point, for now, you can skip this suggestion (as many times as it insists it’s a good idea) during the full driver software installation.

  1. If you see it, you can skip / ignore suggestion(s) regarding Instant Ink subscription.  Instant Ink subscription is NOT mandatory.

  1. Full driver provides print and scan functions supported by your printer.

Many thanks for your detailed reply!

I will have a try at all these over the weekend.

The only comment to make is that i dont actually use the word template for the labels, I use the avery design and print software which saves as a pdf.  Im not sure if that makes any difference!

You are welcome.

The most important setup is the paper type  - that is, select a thicker paper so the printer expects something other than skinny, plain paper.

PDF...

Well, it could make a difference, I guess.

As far as I know, you can download the template in .doc

You will need to "Allow editing" if you download the Word template.

One Caveat:

If you convert the .doc format to .docx (modern Word format), the "side to side" alignment might (does) shift very slightly from side to side.  In practice, the shift distance may not be significant but, sure, it could depend on your printer, your Word software, and the interpretation of the Word document.

The example in my first post is for printing PDF.

The "first try" test, perhaps on plain paper, should be at "Actual size".

"Shrink oversize pages" might work, though - in general - I've not had to use this.

"Fit", assuming the PDF document is accurate, does not change the "size" to the extent that it is significant.

Good Luck.
