Officejet Pro 8610

I'm getting conflicting direction on moving and storing my Officejet Pro 8610 printer. Do I remove the print cartridges and store them individually in plastic baggies, or, do I turn the printer off and wait til the print cartridges have sealed up then remove the power cord? The printer is being stored in its box but I can't control if it will be stored upright. Which is the best way to store the ink?

I had an Officejet Pro 8600 (very similar) that I stored for a year by just turning it off, letting the cartridges park and then unplugging the power.  After a year I plugged it back in and printed a test page with no problems.  (I was expecting to have to do some cleaning cycles but this was not required.)  Alternately, you could remove the printhead and cartridges and store them as shown in the document here.

That said, the main issue you will have is the orientation - if  the printer is stored on its side or upside down it is very likely the ink in the service station area will leak out and damage the printer.  This can be very messy - you will need to take steps to insure the printer is stored in the correct orientation.

So look’s like I keep the print cartridges in the printer per HP: “After the tape or caps have been removed, cartridges and printheads should remain installed in the product.” The ink cartridges are about a month old, so keep them in when my printer goes into Public Storage.
