HP Smart Tank Wireless 450

Multiple lights are flashing when I switch on the printer, including the ON/OFF button. There is also a letter E flashing. The only lights not flashing are the Cancel light, Colour copy light and Black and white copy light. I have switched it on and off multiple times and topped up the inks, except the black which is low but not empty.

Hi @903NQL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When multiple lights are flashing on your HP Smart Tank 450 printer, including the ON/OFF button and a letter "E," it usually indicates an error or problem with the printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

Check the Printer's Status and Errors:

  • Consult the Printer Manual: Look for the specific error code or lights pattern in the printer's user manual. The "E" often represents an error, and the manual might give you details on what it means.
  • Check the Display Panel: If your printer has a display screen, it might show an error message or code that can help diagnose the issue.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Even though the black ink is low, it might still be worth checking if the printer is having issues with any other ink cartridges. Make sure all cartridges are properly installed and that their ink levels are sufficient.

Perform a Reset:

  • Power Cycle: Unplug the printer from the power source for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Factory Reset: If unplugging doesn't help, look for a way to perform a factory reset on the printer. This is usually found in the settings menu on the printer’s display panel or through the printer's software on your computer.

Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

  • Open all access panels and check for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer. Clear any debris or jammed paper.

Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables are securely connected, including the power cord and any data cables (USB or network cables).

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Updating the firmware might resolve some issues. This can be done through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I tried all the things you suggested but none worked initially . Finally the printer worked via the HP app rather than via “Print” function I used previously. Both melds have worked in the past…still can’t work out why “print” function didn’t work.
