Hi @AZ-Sunshine,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand that trying to restart your computer whenever you want to print is inconvenient, but it’s likely due to a communication issue between your printer and the computer. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Update Printer Driver
- Check for updates:
- Open Device Manager on your computer.
- Expand Print queues or Printers.
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet 3830 and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Alternatively, download and install the latest driver for your printer from the HP Support website.
2. Restart Printer Spooler Service
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Locate Print Spooler in the list.
- Right-click and select Restart.
- Ensure the startup type is set to Automatic:
- Right-click Print Spooler > Properties.
- Under Startup type, select Automatic and click OK.
3. Run the Printer Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Select Printer and click Run.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Reinstall the Printer
- Remove the printer:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click on your printer and select Remove device.
- Reinstall:
- Re-add the printer using Add a printer or scanner.
- If prompted, download and install the driver.
5. Disable Bidirectional Support
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your printer and select Printer properties.
- Go to the Ports tab and uncheck Enable bidirectional support.
- Click OK and try printing again.
6. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Install any pending updates that might improve device compatibility.
7. Reset the Printer
- Turn off your printer.
- Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the power outlet.
- Wait 2-3 minutes, then reconnect and turn it back on.
8. Advanced: Clean Up Old Drivers
- Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to detect and resolve issues automatically. Download it from the HP Print and Scan Doctor
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
