Hi @starkjames,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting the error message "Supply System Problem" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer can be caused by several issues beyond just the cartridge itself.

Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the new cartridge is properly installed. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place securely.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridge and gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water.
  • Also, clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Let the contacts dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

Inspect for Obstructions:

  • Check for any obstructions or debris inside the cartridge slot that might be preventing proper contact between the cartridge and the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Update Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates on the HP Support website for the OfficeJet Pro 8710.

Use Original HP Cartridges:

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause issues with the printer.

Printhead Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • Perform a printhead cleaning from the printer's maintenance menu. This can help resolve issues related to ink flow and cartridge recognition.

Check for Software Issues:

  • Sometimes, reinstalling the printer drivers and software on your computer can help. Download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Printer Reset to Factory Settings:

  • As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This will clear any software glitches but will also erase your custom settings.
  • From the home screen, swipe down to open the dashboard.
  • Select "Setup" (gear icon).
  • Navigate to "Printer Maintenance" or "Printer Settings".
  • Look for an option like "Restore Defaults" or "Reset".
