Printer tells me there is a jam but there is not.  I have tried everything to make this junk printer print.  I do not want another HP printer if this is what I have to put up with.

Hi @BFStout,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding paper jam issues on your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check and Clear Paper Path

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.

Access Panels and Doors:

  • Open all accessible doors and panels. This includes the front and rear access doors.

Remove Paper Tray:

  • Remove the paper tray and any paper present in the tray.

Inspect the Paper Path:

  • Use a flashlight to inspect the paper path thoroughly. Look for tiny pieces of paper, dust, or debris that might be stuck and causing the sensor to detect a jam.
  • Pay attention to any areas where paper enters and exits the printer.

Check Printer Rollers

  1. Clean Rollers:
    • Clean the paper feed rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Ensure the rollers are clean and free of dust and debris.
    • Allow the rollers to dry completely before reconnecting power.

Reset the Printer

Unplug the Printer:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wall outlet, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

Plug and Turn On the Printer:

  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer to see if the error is resolved.

Update Firmware

Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.

 Sensor Reset

  1. Perform Sensor Check:
    • Sometimes a software reset can clear sensor errors. Use the printer’s control panel to check for a sensor reset option.
    • If available, access the printer settings to reset paper sensors.

Run Printer Diagnostics

  1. Print Diagnostic Report:
    • Use the embedded web server or the HP Smart app to run a diagnostics report. This can help identify if a specific component is malfunctioning.
    • Follow instructions in the HP Smart app to run the diagnostic tests.

I hope this helps.
