Since starting work after the holidays I have spent 7 hours - yes 7 hours trying to get my wireless printer and scanner to work. There have been no updates since I switched it off before Xmas or anything that could have changed my settings. After crying with frustration I finally got the printer to work. I had to call in a technician yesterday to get the scanner to work. It took her two hours via remote support and in the end she had to download a different programme. She blamed my firwall programme which was a cop out as it was turned off at the time.

 

I now find that I have suddenly lost the ability to print double sided. I have gone into all of the advanced options suggested on these sites but nothing. I can only print double sided if I manually do it myself.

 

I want my old printing programme back please. Can someone help and also give me an explanation as to why this has happened. I have lost 7 hours of working time and I'm NOT happy...

I understand that you are unable to print two sided from your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer.

 

Don't worry as I have a few steps that should help fix this issue.

I am sorry you are frustrated - it is hard to focus when things are not working as expected.

 

I can offer the following:

 

The Datasheet indicates automatic Duplex printing is available on this printer.

 

Program changes, installing an alternative print driver, or other oddities might require that you verify / "install" the duplex setup.

 

Duplex installed?

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Right-Click Printer > Printer Properties > tab Device Settings >

Under Installable Options > Automatic Duplexing Unit > Select / Verify Installed > OK

Full Feature Software:

In most cases, installing Full Feature Software is the best print driver option.

 

If the printer software is installed and is not working as expected:

  • Uninstall the printer program(s) from Programs and Features >
  • Restart the computer and log in >
  • Download and install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software >
  • After the installation appears complete, Restart the computer and log in to "finish"

Hints if you are using standard Wireless (with a router):

  • Stability is improved when you assign a Static IP address to the printer
  • Ensure Wireless Direct is NOT enabled (toggle the setting on the front of the printer to make sure the WiFi Direct is actually off)

Although this cool reporting tool has been around for quite a while, it might be overlooked because it is hiding in an unlikely spot in the Operating System.

 

Windows 7: Control Panel > set icon view > Action Center >

Windows 10: Control Panel > set icon view > Security and Maintenance >

Under Maintenance > Open the Drop Down Menu >> Click on View Reliability Report

The answer doesn't help bring back automatically printing on 2 sides.  Why should I have to put the paper back in, when it used to work just fine
