When I enter the correct passphrase for my router, the printer says "wrong passphrase" and will not connect.

Welcome to the HP Forums, this is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are getting "wrong passphrase" error while connecting the printer to router. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Did you check if the caps lock is on while typing the password?

If the passphrase is correct and you still getting the same error message, then follow the below steps:

Update the printer firmware

To update the firmware from the printer, temporarily connect the printer to the Internet using a non-secure connection.

  1. Turn off or disconnect all devices connected to your Wi-Fi network.

  2. Temporarily change the wireless network security on the router or gateway to Open or No Security. You may need to refer to the gateway/router documentation or search the Internet to find instructions. Have the customer write down their WPA passphrase if they do not already have it handy.

  3. Connect the printer over wireless to the router or gateway. You are not required to enter a passphrase as the connection is now open.

  4. Update the printer firmware from the front panel menu. Search for a Printer Update selection in the ePrint, Web Services, or Settings menu categories.

  5. If you unable to select Printer Update or Printer Update fails, make sure Web Services is enabled.

  6. hen the firmware update has finished, set the router or gateway security back to its original setting for WPA/WPA2.

  7. Reconnect the printer to the router or gateway and enter the passphrase.

  8. If the error returns, continue to the next step to contact HP.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
