Hi @matthewsbelinda,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out regarding your HP Deskjet 6940 printer not printing. I understand how inconvenient this can be. Let's walk through some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

1. Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure the printer is turned on and properly connected to your computer (via USB or network).
  • Verify no error lights are flashing on the printer.

2. Check the Print Queue:

  • On your computer, open the Print Queue by searching for "Devices and Printers".
  • Right-click on HP Deskjet 6940 > See what's printing.
  • Cancel or clear any stuck print jobs.
  • Restart the printer and try printing again.

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • This tool can automatically detect and fix common printing problems.

4. Verify Connection Type:

For Network Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • Print a network configuration page to check network status.

5. Check for Updated Drivers:

  • Go to HP Software and Drivers.
  • Enter HP Deskjet 6940, download, and install the latest drivers.
  • After installation, restart your computer and printer.

6. Set Printer as Default:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click HP Deskjet 6940 and choose Set as Default Printer.

7. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer from power and wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

8. Test Printing Another Document:

  • Try printing a simple text document or test page.
  • If it prints, the issue may be document-specific.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
