HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer

I'm on the MAC OS Sonoma system. My printer was working and now says it is out of paper when there is paper. I've reset it, restarted my computer and tried to print other things. Same message - no paper.  It will complete a test print with no issues.

Hi @ALBBella,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP ENVY Photo 7855 is mistakenly detecting that it's out of paper, even though it's loaded. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Paper Settings:

  • Make sure the paper size and type settings in your print job match what’s loaded in the printer. If they don't match, the printer may think it doesn't have paper.
  • Open the printer settings on your Mac, select your printer, and ensure the paper size (e.g., A4, Letter) is correct.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • Sometimes the print queue might get stuck. Open System Settings on your Mac, go to Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and clear any pending jobs in the queue.

Check for Paper Misalignment:

  • Ensure the paper is properly aligned in the tray. Misalignment or too much paper in the tray can sometimes cause this error.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer drivers. Go to the Apple Menu > System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Options & Supplies. Check for any available updates.

Reset the Printer:

  • Even though you've reset it, try performing a more thorough reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it for 10-20 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

Try Another Print Job:

  • Sometimes, the first print job after the reset can still trigger issues. Try printing a different document, or printing from another application to see if the issue persists.

Test the Printer on Another Device:

  • If possible, try connecting the printer to another computer or mobile device to confirm if the issue is specific to your Mac.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I am having this same issue.

I have:

Checked Paper Settings:

Cleared the Print Queue:

Checked for Paper Misalignment:

No Update on Printer Drivers:

Reset the Printer

Reset the computer

Tried Another Print Job

Tested the Printer on Another Device:

-It works fine from 3 other devices

The out of paper error is still there anytime you open the print queue.

What do you try next?

That is an excellent description and a great diagnosis. It is greatly appreciated.

The issue seems to persist even after attempting the troubleshooting steps mentioned above.
