My printer fails to print and scan sporadically. It will sometimes be fixed after turning it off, unplugging & plugging it back in, and restarting. Today, nothing works. The print job gets stuck in the spooler and won't even cancel properly. When scanning, I will randomly get an error message that says Document Failed to Scan.

@Cellomomm, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Restart Print Spooler (Windows):
- Search services in the search box. Open the service menu.
- In the list, find Print Spooler.
- Right-click Print Spooler and click Restart.
- If it’s stopped, click Start instead.
- Close the window. Check if the issue persists
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
Check Printer Connection
Since this is happening sporadically, it's also important to confirm your printer's connection to your computer.
If you're using a USB connection, try a different USB port.
If you're on a network connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), check if the printer is still connected to the same network as your PC.
To check the connection status:
Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel.
Ensure the IP address matches what's configured on your PC.
Reinstall or Update Printer Driver
Uninstall the Current Driver:
Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
Find your HP printer, click on it, and select Remove Device.
Then go to Device Manager (right-click on the Start button, select Device Manager), and under Printers, uninstall your HP printer.
Reinstall or Update the Driver:
Visit the official HP support site: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw Drivers.
Download the latest driver for Windows 11 and reinstall it.
After reinstalling, try printing or scanning again.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
