HP Deskjet 2510 All-in-One Printer

My printer is on permanently.  The power button does not work, only switched off at the wall socket.  It will not print and has a question mark lit up at the side of the counter window.  I replaced the black cartridge with a new one but checking ink levels both are shown empty?

Hi @Bonzo7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Deskjet 2510 printer is experiencing multiple issues, including a power button that remains on and a question mark light. Here’s a detailed guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve these problems:

1. Power Button and Printer Stuck On

  • Turn Off the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the printer and unplug it from the wall socket.
  • Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cord back in, and then plug it into the wall socket. Turn the printer on to see if the issue persists.
  • Ensure that the wall socket is working by testing it with another device.
  • Try a different power outlet if available.

2. Question Mark Light

The question mark light often indicates an issue with the printer’s status or a problem that needs attention. This can includ

  • Refer to the printer’s manual for the specific meaning of the question mark light.
  • Paper Jam: Check for any paper jams or obstructions inside the printer.
  • Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and securely.

3. Ink Cartridge Issues

If the ink levels are showing as empty even after replacing the cartridges:

Reinstall Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer’s ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove the ink cartridges and check for any protective tape that may still be on the cartridge nozzles.
  • Reinstall the cartridges, making sure they are seated properly.
  • Ensure that the cartridges you installed are compatible with the HP Deskjet 2510.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Gently clean the contacts on the ink cartridges and inside the cartridge slots using a lint-free cloth. Avoid touching the nozzles.

Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Some printers have built-in diagnostics to check cartridge status. Refer to your printer’s manual for instructions on running these diagnostics.

4. Update Printer Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Deskjet 2510
  • Install the updated drivers on your computer and restart the system.

5. Check Printer Settings and Software

  • Go to your printer’s software on your computer and check the printer settings to ensure it’s not set to offline or paused.
  • On Windows, you can run the built-in printer troubleshooter:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
