My HP 2710 flashes it has no ink but I have just inserted 2 new ink cartridges. It has been in the box for a while - I though maybe some ink had dried up or something? Please help.

Hi @SusanE77,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Deskjet 2710 printer is displaying a "no ink" error message even after you've inserted new ink cartridges, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed in the correct slots. Sometimes, cartridges may not be fully seated or properly clicked into place.
  • Remove and Reinsert Cartridges: Take out the new cartridges and then reinsert them firmly. Make sure you remove the plastic protective tape or cover from the cartridge before inserting it.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer back on and see if the error message persists.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: Some printers may require a hard reset to clear internal errors. To do this, turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and then press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware might resolve compatibility issues and improve performance.
  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges that are compatible with your printer model. Using third-party or incompatible cartridges can sometimes lead to errors.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: If the cartridge contacts are dirty or have accumulated ink residue, they may not establish proper communication with the printer. Gently wipe the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth to clean them.
  • Run Printer Diagnostics: Many printers have built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify issues. Check your printer's user manual to learn how to run diagnostics or find troubleshooting options.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
