HP ENVY 5544
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

HP Envy 5544 will simply stop working.  MacBook Pro (2012)  says "The printer is not connected"   and "Printing -  Unable to locate printer".    The printer has its window lit up and lookig normal but  tiny blue light starts blinking. Despite all my effort to get it going it will stay 'not working' for days then suddenly (like me being in another room cooking and hearing it clicking and clacking   )starst working again  It has been such a nuisance that I bought a cheap Canon as a back up.   Other that I find it a great piece of kit.   Being of a great age I find a lot of current computer terminology incomprehensible. Wasn't like that in 1980's !  HELP

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

A blinking wireless light typically indicates that the printer is no longer connected to your home WiFi. Resetting the printer network settings and re-connecting the printer to your home WiFi may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Unplug your modem/router and leave it powered off.

2.) Restart your printer, from the printer control panel, touch   Setup. Touch 'Network Setup", touch "Restore Network Settings".

3.) Power off your printer

4.) Reconnect your modem/router and wait for it to re-establish its internet connection.

5.) Power on your printer.

6.) On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon .

7.) Touch the Settings icon , and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

8.) Touch the name of your wireless network. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

Once the printer is connected to your home WiFi, connect Mac to the same WiFi network and try to print.

Let me know how it goes!
