Envy 5505
macOS 10.15 Catalina

In a whole page of text, my HP 5505 Envy has started printed only about half the words, with some black rectangles along the lines of text aand a lot of white space.  Cartridge levels are high.  Black cartridge newly installed.  I've tried Color and Black and White.  Same problem.  Un-readable.  Have tried on iPad and MacBook.  Same result.

@leefey, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

Let us try these steps:

 

Try making a standalone copy in color and black to check if that prints fine. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

 

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your MAC.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

 

On the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon  to display the current estimated ink levels. Replace any low/empty ink cartridge.

 

Clean the ink cartridges

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .

  2. Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.

  3. If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Yes when prompted to perform the next level of cleaning.

  4. NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform both levels of cleaning again.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic report from the printer control panel, and then evaluate the results.

  1. Load the printer with plain white paper.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe left on the display, and then touch Setup .

  3. Touch Tools.

  4. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Print Quality Report.
