Hi,
You should get an email from dropbox with the zipped folders. You probably know this but I'd start by running the E5540x64.msi file on the opening folder. It should remove any previous drivers but uninstall everything using Revo Uninstaller (free download) first to remove all previous settings, etc.
Let me know how it goes.

My HP Envy 5540 printer will only print in black and white. My laptop does not have a disc area to insert the original disc that came with the printer to re-install the printer software. Is there another way to fix this problem?

As you can see from my help with the previous poster, I'm happy to zip up the contents of the installation disk and send it to you but I'd need your email address. You can either post it in a reply but that is risky for you or send me a private message via this post to say that you have done so.
Best wishes

Go to HP website and download the SUPPORT Programs for the HP Envy 5540. One of them will include a TROUBLE SHOOTER (HP Print & Scan Doctor) that should help resolve problems with printer. Are you participating in the HP Ink program ? If so you might have installed one of those ink cartridges. Apparently the Black cartridge is working but not the Color.
You can also got to the Windows Control Panel under Programs and Features to Uninstall the Printer. But before you decide to do that go to Device Manager which is also located in the Control Panel area and try Updating the Driver , then Disable the Device and re-enable it.
Have you tried connecting the Printer using the cable with the USB end directly to your computer. Maybe you have the settings for your Printer set for Black/White Only. The only other thing I can think of is the Color Ink Cartridge heads are damaged/ clogged or possibly out of Ink and won't print color leaving your prints in Black.

Thanks to all who tried to help with my black and white printing problem.
I have purchased a new HP Specter laptop and this solved the problem. However I did not receive the help form HP this time which was disappointing as they are usually very helpfull. I was just going round in circles trying to fix the problem and tried all the fixes everyone kindly suggested.
I guess that spending almost £2,000 on a new laptop shows the problem was identified by HP but they couldn't bothered to write a patchfor older machines to fix it this time!

Just recently ran into this problem. Bought a new PC for hubby for Xmas and I got a new one 2 weeks ago. I guess since we had mostly been using Google cloud print it hadn't affected us yet, but last week something went wrong with that and I had to redo everything on both computers and I never had a disc, I've always relied on the HP website for the all in one driver and this time it has screwed me because I've wasted 6 sheets of photo paper. I have checked multiple times verifying that it isn't my print settings or print preview settings, I've tried from Paint, Corel PaintShop Pro, Aftershot, PhotoMirage, HP Photo Creations, and even the Windows Photo Viewer and every time it printed Black and White....I don't have time or money for this ****. Since HP refuses to fix the issue, do you happen to have the old driver?

Hi Clive,
Are you still willing to help me out with the zipped files?
If still reading this site, and respond, I will send you my email address (don't know how to pm from here, but it's worth the short term risk to get the printer working properly again).
I'm really disappointed in the fact the HP moderators of this site never added to the thread - even if it was to say that the powers that be in HP are going to do nothing.
You expect more from a company the size and reputation of HP - great way to try and force you to buy a new printer.
Scallywags 🙂

I bought a new computer and downloaded the Full Version Driver. Whenever I shut down or restarted the computer it changed to all B & W. I reloaded it with the same problem. I just tried loading the Basic version of the driver, & it seems to work. even after restarting.
