Hi @spthr ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand there might be an issue with the way your printer is processing PDFs and other document types.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

  • Check Printer Settings: Make sure that your printer settings are configured correctly to handle PDF files. Sometimes printers have different settings for different types of documents.
  • Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. You can usually find the latest drivers on the HP website. Installing updated drivers can often resolve compatibility issues.   Software and Drivers for HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer series
  • Restart Printer: Sometimes a simple restart can fix minor glitches. Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute or two, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check PDF Files: Verify that the PDF files you are trying to print are not corrupted. Try printing different PDF files to see if the issue persists. If you have access to another printer, try printing the PDF files from there to determine if the problem is with the printer or the files themselves.
  • Print from Different Software: If you are printing PDFs from a specific software program (e.g., Adobe Acrobat), try printing from a different program or application. Sometimes issues can arise due to compatibility between the software and the printer.
  • Reset Printer: Most printers have a reset option in their settings menu. Resetting the printer to its default settings can sometimes resolve various issues.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Firmware updates can address bugs and improve the overall performance of the device. Update the firmware on an HP printer

I hope this helps.
