@thoughtful9, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Try making a standalone copy in color and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
  • Which application are you trying to print from?
  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?

Check the estimated ink levels

On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Ink Level Indicator icon .

Replace any low/empty ink cartridge.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your computer.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Perform steps 1, 6, and 7 from this document. This document helps to resolve print quality issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

My wife has an identical printer that's located several rooms away. Instead of sending print jobs to my printer, they're being sent to my wife's printer. How do I correct this?

You may change the default printer on your MAC or rename the printers.

Check if you have both the printers listed on your MAC. To identify the printers, you may switch one of them off.

If your printer is not listed, add the printer to the MAC using the Airprint driver. Refer to steps 2 of this document.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners.

  2. Select the printer in the list on the left.

  3. Click Options & Supplies, then click General.

  4. Type the new name and location in the Name and Location fields.

To change the default printer,

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners.

  2. Click the “Default printer” pop-up menu, then choose an option.

    • If you want the same printer to always be the default printer, choose that printer. The default printer doesn’t change, even after you print to a different printer.

Let me know how it goes.
