HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I set up my brand new HP Office Jet 3830 to print wirelessly over the shared network. Everything went well, the printer printed its confirmation page and I was able to print from our Windows 10 desktop. However, every time we try to connect to the printer from our MacBook Pro with macOS 10.14 Mojave, the printer pauses and we get an error message "encryption certificate expired".

I followed the instructions to reset the printer, disconnect it from the network and run the connection wizard again, but the same thing is happening. Can anyone help?

PS: The MacBook works perfectly with another HP Office Jet at a different location.

A warm welcome to HP Community!

Resetting the printer network settings, reconnecting the printer back to the network and then adding a compatible printer driver may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Unplug your modem/router and leave it powered off.

2.) Restart your printer, from the printer control panel, touch "Setup". Touch 'Network Setup", touch "Restore Network Settings".

3.) Power off your printer

4.) Reconnect your modem/router and wait for it to re-establish its internet connection.

5.) Power on your printer.

6.) Run Wireless setup wizard on the printer to connect it back to your network.

Once the printer is connected, use the steps below to remove the existing printer driver and add a compatible driver:

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

Let me know  how it goes!

Thanks for posting in HP Support Community!

Are you using an HP Officejet 3830 printer?

Does the printer print when you copy a document?

Would you be able to send me a sceenshot of the error.

Yes, I am able to copy and print. I noticed that other Mac users are having similar problems. I've attached screen shots of the what happens when I try to print.

Thanks! Could you perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results. Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by touching the wireless icon on the printer display.

Here is what it says:

Ping has started…

PING : 56 data bytes

Thanks! It looks like Mac is able to send and receive data from the printer.

Have you tried resetting the printer network settings, reconnecting the printer back to network and then removing and adding the printer driver?

Do you have any antivirus software installed on your Mac?
