Of course, I should have done something sooner, but work, family, study...and I assumed there would be a simple answer when I had time to find it. 

 

HP OfficeJet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One purchased February 2016 with extended warranty to February 2019.

Throughout most of the time I have had it, there have been problems with accessing the printer.  For the last couple of years certainly I would not be able to guarantee it would print without some problem.  This was regardless of whether it was operating on wireless or wired in the network. Then there was a period of time when it would print only if I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled it before use. For the last year however, I have been unable to print unless I email a pdf to the printer on the hp e-print, it simply will not be communicated with via any other computer directly, simply saying it is offline.  

I have tried

  • the usual clearing print queues, setting as default printer etc
  • connecting it to different laptops and desktops
  • different ethernet cables
  • static IP address
  • uninstall and reinstall, including cleaning all traces and reinstalling drivers
  • using all the HP troubleshooting and fixing they offer (like HP scan doctor)

Sometimes, the printer will say through HP Smart that there is user action required at the printer but when I go to do that action, there is nothing reported at the printer, and then when I send something to print, it simply reports that it is offline.

 

I have subsequently discovered that my father had the same issue with this printer model and has had it replaced after HP were unable to resolve the issues with his. However, help appreciated!

One trick I've used for printer problems is to delete the printer from your devices list, and then reinstall it as a new printer.  Starting anew won't change the printer's internal utility regarding ink levels as it will remember that internally. Good luck.

Thanks for that suggestion. Sadly it has not worked. Printer showing as connected to network and ready through HP Smart and will print a test page but offline everywhere else and still not printing.
