After installing a new black ink cartridge 902XL, my printer will not print black ink. I've cleaned the printheads at least 10 times now, but no luck. The colors are printing fine, but no black. I even installed another NEW black cartridge thinking the previous new cartridge was defective, but still no luck. Any suggestions?

I am having the same issue. this started October 8th. Installed brand new black 902XL cartridge and no black or grayscale printing. I installed all cartridges at the same time. The colors work fine but no black ink printing. As the previous post stated, I tried printhead cleaning numerous time as well as printhead alignment. All this did was deplete the new color cartridges to almost replacement level. I also bought a smaller black 902 cart because as the previous post mentioned, I thought I may have a defective cartridge. nothing has worked. I've followed all the suggestions for a fix but none have worked.
I've also uninstalled the printer and reinstalled the drivers from HP website. This didn't work either.
Please help me. It's funny that these problems are happening with numerous other peoples printers at the same time. I bought this printer from Staples brand new in Spring of 2017 and have not had even one problem with it until yesterday.
Is there a software issue? If so, is there a fix on the way.
Thanx,
Jeff R

This worked for me. I might get into trouble for posting this but here goes: Disable the HP Cartridge Protection mode.
I spent 25 minutes on the phone with HP support. Even though my warranty had expired, the tech was kind enough to help as he could. The end result of the call was that his suggestion that my printer was gone and I should buy a new one. I've only had the HP 6968 for a little over 2 years so I was astonished that I would need a new one so soon. The last HP printer I bought lasted about 10 years. Of course I balked at buying a new one right away. I thanked the man and decided to do more research.
The end result is that I was able to print in black (and all colors) again after doing this. Maybe it was a fluke but worth a try before you go out to buy another printer.
After trying all of these steps, I took out the small 902 cart and reinstalled the 902XL cart. The first page I printed came out perfect. It says you will have to purchase a new cart but try your first 902XL cart first.
Good luck and Godspeed. Lol.
