Hi @JulieR333,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer says it is paused but it isn't, here are a few steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check the Printer Status in the HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Go to the printer status section and check if there is any message indicating the printer is paused.
  • If it shows as paused, click the "Resume" or "Start" button to resume the printing process.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off your printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer or mobile device as well, then check if the issue persists.

Clear the Print Queue:

  • On your computer, go to Devices and Printers (or Printers & Scanners in Windows 11).
  • Right-click your HP Smart Tank 5101 printer and select See what's printing.
  • If there are any pending jobs in the queue, right-click and select Cancel to clear the print jobs.
  • Once cleared, try printing again to see if the issue is resolved.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes resetting the printer to its factory settings can help. To do this, follow the steps in the user manual or:
    • Press and hold the Power button and the Cancel button (or similar buttons depending on your model) for 10 seconds to reset the printer.

Check Network Connection:

  • If you're using wireless printing, ensure that the printer is properly connected to your WiFi network. A weak or dropped connection could cause communication issues, leading to a paused status.
  • If necessary, reconnect the printer to your WiFi network.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer via the HP Smart app or the HP website. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause issues like this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
