Hi @Darby77

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

The issue you're describing with your HP Envy 5660 All-in-One printer — where the printer displays an error message, and all the lights flash after restarting — usually indicates a hardware problem or internal error. This could be related to paper jams, problems with the printhead, or a malfunctioning sensor.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Turn Off the Printer and Unplug It

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer (and from the wall outlet if possible).
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes to allow any residual power to drain.
  • After waiting, plug the printer back in and turn it on.

This simple reset can sometimes clear temporary errors.

2. Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the printer cover to access the printhead area and the paper feed path.
  • Check for any jammed paper. Look for paper stuck in the input tray, output tray, or around the rollers. Remove any visible paper carefully. If there are any small paper bits stuck in the rollers, gently remove them.
  • If you're unsure, manually move the rollers by turning them gently to make sure nothing is obstructing the paper path.

3. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer’s access door to reveal the ink cartridges.
  • Check the ink cartridges to ensure they are installed properly and are not obstructed.
    • Make sure the cartridges are fully seated and clicked into place.
    • Remove the ink cartridges and reinsert them to make sure they are installed correctly.
  • Check for protective tape or plastic covering the ink cartridges (if the cartridges are newly installed). Make sure it has been removed.
  • If any cartridge is empty or damaged, replace it with a new one.

4. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold the Power button while plugging the printer back in.
  3. Release the power button after about 10 seconds.
  4. Follow the printer's prompts to complete the reset (if applicable).

5. Perform a Printer Self-Test

Some printers have a built-in diagnostic feature that can help you identify issues.

  • Check if your HP Envy 5660 can perform a self-test or printer diagnostic:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the "Cancel" button and the "Resume" button simultaneously.
    • While holding these buttons, turn on the printer.
    • Release the buttons once the printer powers up, and it will perform a diagnostic self-test to check for any internal issues.

Refer to the user manual for specific steps on running a self-test for your printer model.

6. Update Printer Firmware

7. Check for Any Other Error Messages

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
