My HP office jet Pro 6960 printer is only printing in black, all cartridges are fine, am on an ink replacement contract. Done all the system checks they all come up as fine.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 is only printing in black despite having good cartridges and passing system checks, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
 

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings aren't configured to print only in black and white. Go to your printer settings on your computer and make sure that color printing is selected.

Clean Printhead:

  • Run the printhead cleaning utility from the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app. This can often resolve issues related to color printing.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Even if the cartridges are new, it's good to verify that the ink levels are indeed sufficient. Sometimes the printer might not recognize the cartridges correctly.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a diagnostic test page or a color test page from the printer's control panel. This can help determine if the issue is with specific colors or the entire color printing function.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause printing issues.

Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers. Corrupted or outdated drivers can lead to printing issues.

Check for Clogged Nozzles:

  • Sometimes, the nozzles might be clogged even if the cartridges are fine. Run a nozzle check or cleaning cycle to clear any clogs.

Check Printer Maintenance Settings:

  • Some printers have maintenance settings that might affect printing. Make sure no maintenance tasks are set that might restrict color printing.
