My HP4650 printer's display panel is blank and the ON icon button is not lit up. I've tried unplugging both the power cord to the wall outlet and the power cord from the printer.

Hi @Tiernan99,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When an HP4650 printer's display panel is blank and the ON icon button is not lit up, it indicates a power-related issue. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the problem:

Steps to Troubleshoot and Resolve the Issue:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Unplug the power cord from both the wall outlet and the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and then into the wall outlet.
  • Ensure the power outlet is working by plugging in another device or using a different outlet.

Check the Power Supply:

  • Verify that the power supply is securely connected to the printer and the wall outlet.
  • If you have access to another compatible power supply, try using it to determine if the power supply is the issue.

Inspect the Power Cord:

  • Check the power cord for any visible damage or wear. If the power cord is damaged, it may need to be replaced.

Reset the Printer:

  • With the printer plugged in, press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to reset any internal settings.
  • Release the power button and try turning the printer on again.

Check for External Power Issues:

  • Ensure that the wall outlet is functioning correctly by testing it with another device.
  • Avoid using a power strip or surge protector temporarily to rule out any issues with those devices.

Inspect the Printer for Visible Damage:

  • Look for any visible signs of damage to the printer, especially around the power port.
  • Ensure there are no foreign objects inside the printer that could be causing a short circuit.

Firmware/Software Issues:

  • If the printer has a firmware issue, it might prevent it from powering on correctly. Unfortunately, updating firmware requires the printer to power on, so this step may not be possible without power.

Check the next set of steps in the next post.

Hi @Tiernan99,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Advanced Troubleshooting:

If none of the basic troubleshooting steps work, there may be a more serious internal issue with the printer. Here are some advanced steps to consider:

Internal Component Check:

  • If you're comfortable with opening the printer (and if it's out of warranty), you can check for loose connections or internal damage.
  • Look for any blown fuses or burnt components on the printer's power board.

Seek Professional Repair:

  • If the printer is still under warranty, contact HP Support for repair or replacement options.
  • If the printer is out of warranty, consider taking it to an authorized repair center or a professional technician for diagnosis and repair.

If the issue persists, it's best to contact HP Support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
